Michael Otto, environmental mold consultant, joins the podcast to talk about the role that environment plays in mold and mold illness. Owner of G A Environmental, for years, Michael has been helping families identify mold in their homes and craft a remediation protocol. The goal of this is really to help folks understand and identify if they are suffering from mold illness and if you think you are what are the first steps that you should be taking and of course, we'll talk to physicians and experts from all different industries but one of the things that's really important is the environment that you are in. So a quick backstory here on Michael and how he came to be a specialist in mold. So he actually became an asbestos consultant back in 2018 and was doing consulting for an organization. And then Michael bought out the company and he became a mold consultant in 2022. He's based in West Texas. And I wanted to bring Michael on here today to talk a little bit or a lot of it about... when people call him, why do people reach out to you? And then once they start working with you, what does that look like? So if you could just start at the beginning for me, Michael, how did you get into the mold space where someone like me, so I was referred to you by a general contractor that I knew, and I said, hey, my doctor thinks I'm suffering from mold illness. We've done the air test and it came back with some findings. But now we know we need the experts. We need to really get in here and find out what is happening. So how did you land in this space?

Today's episode is especially meaningful for me because I'm sitting down with one of my physicians, Dr. Ben Edwards. Dr. Ben played a pivotal role in both my husband's and my journey through mold illness. When we were at our lowest searching for answers, terrified and stuck in the unknown, Dr. Ben was the one who helped us begin to connect the dots. What makes Dr. Ben so unique is his whole person approach to medicine. He doesn't just look at lab results or write prescriptions. He considers the mind, body, and spirit, and he's not afraid to talk about how faith, peace, and even forgiveness play into our health. In this conversation, we'll explore mold illness and mycotoxin testing, the role of fight or flight in chronic disease, and why detox is essential for both sick and healthy people, and how treating the whole self leads to true healing. Ben Edwards - was born and raised in Belton, Texas. He grew up watching both of his granddads practice “old school” country doctoring. They were general practitioners who might be found doing anything from delivering a baby, to amputating a leg, to sitting for an entire hour counseling a crying patient. Early on, he knew that he wanted to be that kind of doctor, one who took care of the entire family from cradle to grave. He wanted to work with the whole body and the whole family. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, and later graduated from UT-Houston Medical School. Then his wife, Jamie, and he moved to Waco to complete his training at the Waco Family Practice Residency Program where he was Chief Resident. After graduation, the Lord directed them to West Texas and the Garza County Health Clinic in Post, TX. Then, Ben had a divine appointment that would change the course of his life. Through witnessing an “incurable” disease in his nurse practitioner actually be fully reversed, he was introduced to an area of medicine he had never been taught. It was time for Ben to move on to what the Lord designed him to be - a physician who treats the whole patient - mind, body, and spirit.
